Sumitomo Rubber Industries takes control of the Dunlop brand in Africa

"Who is Sumitomo Rubber Industries? "

Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), the Japanese tyre manufacturing giant, announced the formation of Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd on 01st November 2013, following the acquisition of the former Apollo Tyres South Africa (ATSA) from Indian-owned tyre manufacturer, Apollo Tyres Limited (ATL).

The newly formed Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (SRSA), headed by Riaz Haffejee as the CEO, owns the Ladysmith passenger car tyre plant and all employees of the former ATSA Ladysmith plant and Head Office in Durban. The Durban plant and all employees linked to the plant, which manufactures Truck & Bus Radial (TBR) tyres and Off Highway tyres (OHT), has been renamed Apollo Durban (Pty) Ltd and remains under the ownership of Apollo Tyres Limited.
